A Tribute To Scott Hutchison

“Be so good to everyone you love. It’s not a given. I’m so annoyed that it’s not. I didn’t live by that standard and it kills me. Please, hug your loved ones. I’m away now. Thanks.”

The death of Frightened Rabbit lead singer Scott Hutchison is tragic. A sad loss.

His bandmates made the following statement:

There are no words to describe the overwhelming sadness and pain that comes with the death of our beloved Scott but to know he is no longer suffering brings us some comfort.

Reading messages of support and hope from those he has helped through his art has helped immensely and we encourage you to continue doing this.

He will be missed by all of us and his absence will always be felt but he leaves a legacy of hope, kindness and colour that will forever be remembered and shared.

Rest peacefully Scott.

Much love
Grant, Billy, Andy and Simon x

and his family said:

As a family, we are utterly devastated with the tragic loss of our beloved Scott.

“Despite his disappearance, and the recent concerns over his mental health, we had all remained positive and hopeful that he would walk back through the door, having taken some time away to compose himself.

“Scott, like many artists, wore his heart on his sleeve and that was evident in the lyrics of his music and the content of many of his social media posts.

“He was passionate, articulate and charismatic, as well as being one of the funniest and kindest people we knew. Friends and family would all agree that he had a brilliant sense of humour and was a great person to be around.”

His family added: “In addition to his musical success, Scott was a wonderful son, brother, uncle and friend. Despite whatever else was going on in his life he always had time for those he cared for.

“Depression is a horrendous illness that does not give you any alert or indication as to when it will take hold of you. Scott battled bravely with his own issues for many years and we are immensely proud of him for being so open with his struggles.

“His willigness to discuss these matters in the public domain undoubtedly raised awareness of mental health issues and gave others confidence and belief to discuss their own issues.

“To all of those who have come forward with such kind messages of support over the past couple of days, we wish to express our most sincerest of thanks.

“We have been overwhelmed by the love that has been conveyed, not only to Scott, but to our family. It means the world to us.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends as we pay tribute to an extraordinary creative talent. What were your memories of Scott?

Frightened Rabbit will be missing an integral part of what made them THEM. Scott's lyrics got me through many a tough day. His honesty and openness about his mental health was an opening for many of us sufferers to say "me too! And there's no shame in it!". God bless Scott. We will all miss you terribly. Be at rest and at ease knowing you were very loved.

I got the privilege of meeting Scott twice during his tours through the US. Such a nice guy! So passionate and real. His music got me through some really rough times in my life, I don’t know that I would have made it through without his music. Losing him leaves a huge hole in the music industry. Be at peace Scott. Thank you for the music and the memories!

So much love for Frightened Rabbit. This band, the music and lyrics, got me through many days when loneliness seemed to be chocking the air I breathe. Knowing that I wasn’t alone in my loneliness made finding the brightest star in the darkest night easier. I will always remember the feelings of solidarity and kinship when I listen to your voice and let your words soothe my troubled heart. Rest easy Scott in the knowledge that you’re pain wasn’t in vain. You brought hope and happiness to so many people.
