Buddhika Pathirathna

Buddhika Pathirathna

Among the thousands of peacemakers, she sealed her mark as the most worshiped lady on the move. Why? It takes extraordinary compassion to sacrifice a comfortable life to feel the pain of poor and to make a helpless life strong. Mother Theresa owned that courage to self-sacrifice her luxuries to create the smile in mourning eyes.

She traveled the world to meet her destiny. Her life started on 1910 in Skopje, Macedonia. Born to a business family, she spent a relaxed time until her father’s death when she is 8 years old, Then she devoted her life to religious services. She was fortunate enough to have a solid religious background before her long journey started.

It is the slums of Calcutta which completely changed her life. As in her own words: “Call within a call”, her ultimate life call to be the supporting mother to the unloved and abandoned poor ones.

“If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one” – Mother Theresa

She is not boasting but essentially labored to achieve these words. Disclosing the whole word the worth of empathy. She is a living example for anyone who wishes to help the poor helpless. Her life story will inspire and encourage many unborn Mothers Theresa.

It is her uniqueness which drives herself to win the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. Many more recognitions throughout the world. She was a heroine in movies and great character for authors. Even after many years from her death, she is still praised and reminisced.

“Some people come in our life as blessings. Some come in your as Lessons” – Mother Theresa

But she came as both blessing and a lesson, blessing to the thousands of miserable people and a great lesson to the superficial world showing the value of relieving dying lives.

You are my second parents. My guides to the unknown world. Light to the gloomy roads. Support for the difficult battles. Without you, I would be lost in this confused planet. You are the angels from the heaven to show us the right path.

Every letter I right, I owe you a thank. You are the crafter who took my hand and show me how to write, how to draw. Many letters words are meaningless without your kindness. World famous writers poets once nurtured under your shade.

You taught me how to share, how to be polite, how to respect people.  Those are the pillars which I built myself in this vast society. When we are on the top and celebrating the success, you humbly remain happy and still with the unconditional compassion.

There is no engineer without a dedicated teacher, there is no doctor without a hard worked teacher. There is no scientist without a faithful admirer. There is no businessman without an inspired guide. Some teacher in everyone’s life has shown the path to the ultimate success. That’s why Robert frost once said: “I am not a teacher but an awakener”. Teachers are the awakeners of the best version of each tiny soul.

My dear teachers, you are the burning candle to light up our lost souls. The shining sun who blossomed the unborn buds, lively air to the tired hearts. Each student once inspired learned through you will one day treasure your existence in their life. Even though you are far away or gone forever the many souls you have taken to the right path will be thanking you forever for being the candle light to their lost souls.

“A teacher affects eternity, he can never tell where his influence stops”  - Henry Adams

It’s a time of very long ago. A time where human are evolving slowly and many cultures are confined to continents. This noble teacher was born in India, a beautiful country, rich with good cultural aspects, abundant of religious worshipers.

He was born into the luckiest family of the country, the family of a wealthy king. But the royal predictors foresee the mysterious events, which the little prince will go through and eventually let go off royal amenities for some unfound truth seeking. King Suddodhana, the father of prince Siddhartha evade all the sad and bad causes away from prince to protect him from abandoning the crown.

Regrettably, the king was defeated by that cold war. One day Siddhartha on his daily town visit, accidently saw a wretched old man, dying person, a dead body and a clergy. He found its strangeness and his mind wanders deeply to find why such sufferings to people.

“Doubt everything, find your own light ” –  Lord Buddha

Siddhartha’s journey was determined to find the true meaning of life, to find the reason why these people are suffering every day and die. Nonetheless, He was blessed with all the luxuries, surrounded by loved ones. Though, there is something inside his spirit is looking for an escape, an escape from this whole repeating agonized existence.

At that time he was a father of a newborn, with a beautiful and loyal wife. But he was written to find something valuable. To the whole living beings. One day, he left the palace with the unbeaten determination to reveal the hidden meaning of the life

The journey was not simple, not comfortable. He had to meet several teachers, follow their concepts, realize the emptiness of all those. He had to suffer from hunger and thirst, put his body to the extreme danger before he can realize that the ultimate relief is solely based on our own thoughts not anywhere else.

He discovers the noble truth of life sufferings, the reason for sorrow and how to cure the suffering. Then he started to offer his findings to the mankind, he firstly pays gratitude to his first ever teachers and then his parents and relatives. Never missed anyone in need of consolation.

His teachings are re- born as scientific discovering, proving the intelligence of the great leader. None of his words are meaningless. There is a solution for every struggling inside his philosophy.

Lord Buddha’s teaching is eternal, in accord with anyone’s problem, can use in any situation. Most of all if you follow the theories and practice with patience you will be the happiest and serenest person you’ve ever wondered.

“The mind is everything. What you think you become” – Lord Buddha

This is the ultimate revelation gifted to all human if we are lucky we’ll follow him and realize the ultimate truth behind everything and learn to live every moment with contentment. It is the millions of worshipping and prayers he attains for his great kindness to the mankind.

“Man is the most insane species, He worships an invisible God and destroys a visible nature. Unaware that this nature he’s destroying is this God he’s worshiping” – Hubert Reeves

Yes. She is a miserable mother. Mother of seven billion humans who called themselves the most intelligent species on the earth. Most evolving, most creative, most sensible living kind, yet she is unlucky and abandoned.

Why? Is she so expensive to look after? Is she dangerous to go nearby? Has she done anything wrong to human? Or is it the pure selfishness and negligence of human kind? It’s time to halt the race and think again. Are we treating our mother nicely?

Till the last iceberg gets melt away, we won’t realize that we are drowning. Till the last drop of water disappears, we won’t realize that we are thirsting for death. Till the last bee in the flower is dead, we won’t realize that we are starving to death. Yes. Till this unlucky mother bestow her every inch of resource we won’t realize that there is no child can live without her mother.

“Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize that we cannot eat money” - Chief Seattle

Because she can’t speak our language because she can’t cry out loud because she can’t show her tears, she was abandoned, not seen, not heard, not felt. Unconsciously abandoning and dragging own human kind to the ultimate tragedy.

If we can plant one tree for ten cut down trees, if we can save the overflowing rain water, protect our innocent animals, nourish our soil, endorse organic agriculture, and support recycling usage, save the precious air and feel the pain when of the mother earth on every moment we feet on, that is the authentic springtime for our mother earth.

She will present us her most wonderful treasures. We can see her smiling, her happy humming. We can feel her most comfortable cold wind, warmth sunshine, refreshing scent, making the lives of earth a sparkling heaven.

It will just take a pinch of your faith and a compassionate heart to change the whisper of our mother nature to a blessed enchant. Every morning thank for the sunshine for lightning your life, every night thank for the countless breath you took to live another day because there is no other place in the universe to bear this mankind other than our caring mother earth.

“Hunny, do you like a baby girl or a boy?”
Once my mom asked from my father eyes full of hopes and smiles full of dreams.
My father was somewhat a rigid but an open-hearted person, replied,
“Whoever god is planning to gift us”
Surely with loads of hopes and dreams, not lesser to the mother.

Then they gave life to three amazing little souls, filling their home with laughs, cries, screams, questions, stories, adventures and much more. They devoted their whole life to build ours fruitful.
I am the first of all three, grabbing all the love from my parents. Lucky first! Nevertheless, I couldn’t find any memory or moment that they treat other two over myself, I’m sure my sister and brother would also feel the same. That’s their miracle of love. They were best at keeping each of us contented every moment.

We were not born rich, my parents were school teachers, they valued the knowledge for uneducated over money. Hence always we had to adapt to certain conditions and resources.

My mother is like a giant rock, who never fall apart from any obstacle. She is the utmost strength to my father. The supporter to all of his deeds and life achievements.
She dedicated all her soul to raise us as dutiful empathetic individuals. She cooked healthiest and delicious meals every day for us. Helped with our school tasks, shaped our skills, taught us to be organized and most of all she showed us how to bear everything with a faith. Her great compassion made our lives more meaningful.

Now I am a married woman and every time I get sick or trapped with a hard time. It is my mother I’m looking for. It’s miraculous she always had a perfect home remedy for any illness. Answers for every tough situation. She used to say
“Every day I pray for three of you – so, no need to be worry” which always an unconditional blessing for us.

I still remember every morning and evening my father taking three of us to the school which 12 kilometers is away from home on his poor motor bicycle. He never missed a day, I couldn’t recall any day he fell sick and failed his children duties. But after a long time, I got to know that he was a high blood pressure person from his 30’s. Who kept aside own illnesses to make our lives blooms.

He is the carpenter of our house, plumber, and electrician in our house and most delicious dishes are from him. I couldn’t find a thing he is unable of. We saw him as a man of wonders. That’s not just for our home, his friends, neighbors, relatives and school mates all are blessed to have him near them. My father never missed a chance to help a poor person, a person in need. That is his greatest gratification which is a very rare godly habit.

After doing all those heavenly deeds, now he is far away from us, may be still guarding us, looking at us from the heaven. I always picture his love and devotion so he won’t be fade away from my memory. Cherish his noble deeds so we can show our children how to live an exemplary and contented life.

“Behind every young child who believes in himself, are parents who believed first!”
That's why my parents became my sunshine which added the beautiful colors to our dull lives.
Thank you, Father, Thank you, Mother, for every moment you spent for the well- being of us.
