THE ART OF WRITING

THE ART OF WRITING

A lot of people believe you need a degree from the School of Arts or they strongly believe writing was created for a special set of people naturally selected by mother nature and becoming a writer is just impossible. These assumptions are wrong. It is true that good writers have degrees and writing is most times a talent, but what isn’t true is; becoming a writer is impossible and is only for a selected few.

Writing is for everyone, all you need is a pen, paper and of course the desire to write. I noticed I had an interest and burning desire for writing when I was just nine; writing short poems and putting scenarios in my head down in my journal.

I believe writing is just my way of expressing my thoughts and feelings even what I want my future to look like on a piece of paper. Writing also helps me remember things I might possibly forget. Everyone writes, we all own a diary, journal or a notebook, as long as you write in these materials without being forced to, you have an interest in writing but you just don’t know it.

While  growing up, I had so little to say, I was scared, shy, everyone thought I was just dumb (unable to speak) but I knew deep down that although they couldn’t hear my voice, the only way I could express myself was by writing, that was my voice. Writing is your voice written on a paper, I guess that’s why there’s always a voice in your head when you’re reading or writing.

Writing made me really versatile, helped me construct good sentences and increased my research skill level, I always want to know why things are the way they are and not the other way around. My love and passion for writing is why I am a freelance writer and most times help my friends write their wedding speech or letters to their loved ones by simply asking them to tell me how they feel and I help them express these feelings on paper.

I personally believe that being a good writer makes you a good reader, they work hand in hand. To become a better writer, you need to keep reading books, over and over again. Know the minds of other writer, learn how they communicate with their readers, how they dive into the minds of their audience and speak directly to their hearts. The more you read, the better your writing.

Writing is a beautiful art and it takes a true lover of the beautiful things in life to see, someone with an open mind and a free spirit. Writing lets out the caged voice and thoughts in you. You don’t have to stress your brain or force creativity, writing comes from within, all that’s required from you is your willingness to write.

So, take a pen today, write what you feel or how you feel. If you want to share it with the world, the internet is always here for you and if you don’t, you could write it in your diary or journal. We all have our ways of self-expression; painting, music etc. and writing is one of them.
